A striking and compact antique ebonised display cabinet dating from the late Victorian period, originally designed to house a set of weighing scales used by an apothecary for weighing spices, medicinal remedies, powders or precious stones. Glazed on all four sides and featuring a hinged glazed front door, the cabinet protected both the scales and their contents while allowing customers to view them from every angle.
Raised on turned bun feet and retaining its original brass catch, it has a simple, elegant design that works equally well in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Today, it makes a wonderful display cabinet for collectors.
