Original Japanese kendo armour (bogu) set, dating from the early Showa Era, late 1930's to early 1950's, comprising:
-
Men (helmet) with original cotton padding and iron grille
-
Dō (chest protector) made from lacquered bamboo slats, traditionally hand-woven
-
Kote (gloves) in natural suede and indigo-dyed cotton, with laced wrist closures
-
Tare (waist protector) with hand-stitched cotton and painted identification marks and handwritten cloth name / school tag
Due to the size, this set likely belonged to a younger student or youth practitioner during Japan’s wartime or early post-war period, when kendo was used for both martial training and moral education.
Price includes four metal stands for Men, Dō and Kote.
