From a collection of early 20th century hand carved wooden 'Casting Moulds’. This Religious Statue mould was used as the master template by artisans to create ornamental pieces.
The wooden carvings were initially wrapped in papier-mache (small parts are still visible on some of the carvings) and when dry, cut in half to release the wooden cast (hence the visible cut marks on some of the carvings). The two halves would then have been joined together to create the whole figure, before being painted, covered in resin or gilded etc.
Black round base included, however he is not fixed to it.
